DOT3 and DOT4 brake fluids

DOT 3

Chemical Composition: DOT 3 is a glycol-based fluid, primarily composed of glycols and additives. This composition provides suitable properties for the transmission of hydraulic force within the brake system.

Boiling Point: DOT 3 has a dry boiling point, which is the temperature at which it boils when free of moisture, typically in the range of 205 to 260 degrees Celsius (401 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit).

DOT 4

Chemical Composition: DOT 4 brake fluid is also glycol-based, composed primarily of glycols and additives, similar to DOT 3 brake fluid. However, it often contains additional additives to enhance its properties.

Boiling Point: One of the key differences between DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluids is the higher boiling point of DOT 4. It typically has a dry boiling point in the range of 230 to 270 degrees Celsius (446 to 518 degrees Fahrenheit). This higher boiling point makes DOT 4 brake fluid more suitable for applications that generate greater heat during braking, such as high-performance vehicles and heavy-duty applications.
